Interview with Ito Kish : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Ito Kish : The balusters used in old houses during the Spanish period of the Philippines. They are called ventenillas use for air passage which up to now still exist in some old Philippine houses. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Ito Kish : The craftsmanship of the Philippines, who I am as a Filipino. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Ito Kish : For the rest of the world to see it. Talks are on going for it to be carried by galleries and traders. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Ito Kish : About 9 months, it's like having a baby. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Ito Kish : I was inspired by my culture and Philippine design. It was also a homage to my mother Gregoria. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Ito Kish : We produce it ourselves. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Ito Kish : People and who appreciate craftsmanship and design. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Ito Kish : It was name after my mother, Gregoria. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Ito Kish : It looks beautiful in every angle. It has this grandness and command. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Ito Kish : My assistant was an industrial designer. She helped me with the technical parts of it. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Ito Kish : The Gregoria was my first design and it already won a local design award and so I said why not join international awards. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Ito Kish : Appreciation of my culture and what Philippine design is all about. .
